Dokmus

The aim is to explore and settle the island of Dokmus, which is made up of eight square tiles. What makes this tricky is that the tiles move around and rotate!

Each round players enlist the help of one of the island's 'Guardians', giving them a special ability for the round. Then they place their influence markers ('tent' pieces) across the changing landscape – which may require sacrificing some of them. The aim is to place tents adjacent to the island's temples: these will score points once everything's finished moving around – assuming they're still next to a temple.

After eight rounds, players score up, adding bonuses – such as the number of boards they have pieces on. It's a clever, challenging game that will keep you thinking.

I now have the expansion, Return of Erefel, which adds further complications – and opportunities.

Return of Erefel

This expansion introduces a new Guardian, Erefel, who's been ... away. This gives players another special ability to take advantage of. The expansion also contains some new tiles, which include roads. Roads can be quite useful, allowing players to expand their expedition faster – while they stick to the roads. Cunningly, none of the temples is next to a road, so players have to leave the road at some point.

The final addition is a set of 'scenarios': four of them, representing the four seasons. Each changes the game's rules slightly, giving players a different challenge each time they play.
