Forbidden Island
A team of fearless adventurers on a " do-or-die mission to rescue four sacred treasures" before the island sinks beneath the waves forever! That's the plot of this terrific co-operative game from Matt " Pandemic" Leacock.
Players have to work together, making careful use of everybody's special abilities, to move around the island, retrieve the four treasures (attractive resin models) and escape. However, all the time the game's mechanisms force players to turn over (flood) and then remove (sink) the tiles that make up the island.
This may be more family orientated than Pandemic, but it is still a tense challenge that invokes a real sense of jeopardy as the game proceeds and the pace hots up. It is also gorgeously illustrated and produced. And it comes in a tin!
I also have the game's sequels: Forbidden Desert (less water, more sand) and Forbidden Sky (more lightning).
For 2-4 players, aged 10+, playing time 30 minutes: £14.50 (£12.08 outside the UK)
