Tales of the Arthurian Knights
I'm a long-time fan of story-telling game Tales of the Arabian Nights and this game applies that game system to Arthurian legend. Yes, players get to be Knights of the Round Table questing across Logres (and the rest of Britain plus Ireland and Brittany), fighting dragons, rescuing damsels (ahem) and, perhaps, finding the Holy Grail.
The mechanics have been tweaked and streamlined, dealing with some of the issues with Tales of the Arabian Nights. As in the original, the heart of the game is the Book of Tales (it's a hardback!), whose paragraphs tell the players what they have encountered on their travels and give their options for dealing with it. Their rewards can be new or improved skills, money, companions and the all-important Destiny. Or they can end up blessed, ensorcelled, married, plague-ridden...
At the end of the game (and players can decide how long a game they want – over 1, 2 or 3 Ages), the winner is decided by Destiny, but the game (as with the original) is much more about the story you make as you play. There are also Solo and Co-operative modes of playing.
As far as I'm concerned it's irresistible, but try to keep the Monty Python references to a minimum.
For 1-4 players, aged 12+, playing time 2-3 hours: £72.00 (£60.00 tax free outside the UK)
