Indonesia (3rd edition)
The game is a titanic struggle between business moguls in the Far East. Their aim is to become the richest tycoon in the region by wheeling and dealing through their production and shipping companies. It's not enough to produce stuff, you need to get your goods to market. And the ships would be empty if the plantations and factories weren't operating. Though maybe merging companies would produce a bigger profit…
Indonesia has been around for over 20 years now and is a real heavyweight – despite the rulebook being only eight pages long. Players start by setting up a company and operating this gets the money flowing. The ultimate goal may be to have the most money, but it's research that improves companies and brings in more money. However, the mergers are central to the game, whether to build up a company or to get an injection of cash ready for a new company… It is still a big challenge – though thoroughly absorbing.
The third edition does not change the game, but does upgrade the components – compared to the second edition. This starts with the artwork on the board so that areas are better differentiated. The thick cardboard goods tokens have new icons to make them clearer. Cards are easier to read. Additional markers mean it's more obvious what has been done where. There's a new player aid/screen and the ships are now pretty wooden pieces.
For 2-5 players, aged 14+, playing time 3-4 hours: £115.00 (£95.83 tax free outside the UK)
